Women of Vision holds third annual Power of the Purse event
May 22The third annual Women of Vision Power of the Purse® scholarship fundraising luncheon was hosted on May 18 in Flagler College’s Ponce de Leon Hall. The event raises money for student scholarships and opportunities and strengthens connections between the college and women in the community. This year’s luncheon, which drew more than 340 women to the college’s historic Dining Room, featured a silent auction of beautiful and unique purses, as well as a keynote address by entrepreneur Jenny Levison, owner of the Atlanta-based “Souper Jenny” restaurants. -
Flagler’s Human Resources programs receive ‘Worksite Wellness Award’

Mrs. Abare hosts final spring tea
May 11Flagler College’s First Lady Susan Abare hosted her last spring tea on Tuesday at the college’s Markland House, as President William T. Abare, Jr. will be retiring in June. -
Flagler’s Giving Day exceeds goal for raising money to honor President Abare and benefit students
May 10Flagler College’s third annual Giving Day saw 233 donors (191 of those alumni) raise $67,844 at the college by the close of the day on May 9 — $19,900 more than last year’s Giving Day. -
Flagler College makes public old photographs, catalogs on new digital archive site
May 9More than 1,000 archival items, from yearbooks and college catalogs to historic and college photographs are now available to the public, thanks to a new digital archives project by the college’s Archives Specialist Jolene DuBray. These relics of the past — formerly viewable only during in-person visits — became available online May 5, during Alumni Weekend, when DuBray launched the project. -

In addition to a popular silent auction of beautiful and unique purses, the event will be headlined by guest speaker Jenny Levison, owner of the Atlanta-based “Souper Jenny” restaurants and catering business and the author of “Souper Jenny” cookbooks. The entrepreneur’s company has become synonymous with healthful eating, living well and community service. -
Flagler President Abare receives Council of Independent Colleges award for leadership

President Abare presides over final graduation
Apr 30After 16 years, Flagler College President Dr. William T. Abare Jr. handed out diplomas to graduates for the final time on Saturday. Abare is set to retire as president this June, serving in the position since 2001. He has worked at the college for 46 years, and has the distinction of being at every Flagler graduation and seeing every one of the college’s nearly 17,000 alumni cross the stage. -
Flagler College students graduate during spring commencement ceremony
Apr 29If anyone had a reason not to cross the graduation stage today, it would have been Cassandra (Honour) Kelly. The Flagler College Education major has battled a rare form of bone cancer since childhood — one that leaves her with a feeling of arthritis deep in her bones — and was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. But those obstacles have done nothing to slow her tenacious drive. -

Fulbright scholar from Brazil visiting Flagler College to study Deaf Education program
Apr 27For the first time ever, Flagler College is hosting a Fulbright scholar. Dr. Maraisa Lopes, from the Federal University of Piaui Teresina, Brazil, is working with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program in the Education Department to study differences between Brazilian and American higher education experiences in the field. -
‘Will’s War,’ a play based on the historical novel, honors Flagler alumnus, playwright’s great-great grandfather
Apr 26Flagler College alumnus William Windle, ’16, will present a reading of his play “Will’s War,” adapted from his grandmother Janice Woods Windle’s novel of the same name on Tuesday, May 2 at 4 p.m. in the college’s Gamache-Koger Theater. It is free and open to the public. -
Flagler College’s alumni exhibition to be launched over Alumni Weekend
Apr 24The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum and Flagler College will be featuring its annual juried alumni exhibition from May 5 to June 16. In conjunction with the college’s Alumni Weekend, the exhibition will open with a reception for the artists on Friday, May 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. -
Flagler College’s ‘Giving Day’ to be held May 9
Apr 24Flagler College will be raising money for student scholarships and financial aid on Tuesday, May 9, as part of its annual “Giving Day” campaign. This year’s goal is $25,000 — the lead gift amount the college’s Board of Trustees will be donating, and the amount the Board challenges alumni, donors and friends to match, in honor of retiring President William T. Abare, Jr.
